SONGWRITING WORKSHOP - SEPTEMBER 2008.

Sonny Condell an iconic figure in Irish music and Liam Merriman Musician, singer songwriter and radio presenter working with members of the Manor St John Youth services bands programme. Members of the MSJ young bands programme participated in a master class on such areas as song writing , live performance, recording which was facilitated by Sonny and Liam. Sonny has been an integral part of the Irish music scene since the early `70s, a musical career spanning 35 years, from the days with “Tir Na Nog” which landed him on the biggest stages in the world, to the truly fantastic “Scullion”, numerous solo albums, to his current incarnation with the band “Radar”, Sonny Condell is regarded as perhaps one of Ireland’s greatest songwriters.
Liam Merriman is well known locally as a radio presenter on WLRFm and had also written and recorded his own music. Manager of the Manor St John Youth services Kevin Power said’ we were thrilled and delighted to welcome Sonny and Liam to work with the young people. Their talent, wisdom and experience shared with the young people created a unique opportunity for them to gain valuable insights into the music industry from the best in Ireland”. The MSJ Young bands programme gave the young bands an opportunity to question Sonny and Liam on all aspects of the music industry with a particular emphasis on song writing. Plans are already a foot to run more workshops to assist the members of the programme in the coming months.
Check the gallery pages for more pictures from the songwriting workshop.
